- 6-Track Polyrhythm Sequencing: Binari supports six independent tracks, each capable of unique rhythms and timings, allowing for complex, layered compositions.
-
Advanced Pattern Generation:
- Euclidean Pattern Creation: Effortlessly create rhythmic patterns with Euclidean spacing for dynamic polyrhythms.
- Random Pattern Generation with Control: Generate random patterns with step limitations to maintain musical balance and avoid overly dense rhythms.
-
Live Recording Over Patterns:
- Step-Addition for Drum Rolls: The “repeat x2” feature lets you record steps that double the normal 16th clock, creating rapid drum roll effects for added intensity.
- Real-Time Step Editing: Unlike many Euclidean-based sequencers, Binari lets you add, remove, or modify steps live on top of generated patterns, giving you total control over your sound.
-
Pattern Memory and Flexibility:
- Save and Load 16 Patterns: Binari can store up to 16 patterns. Each track can independently load a saved pattern, enabling unique combinations for creative mixing.
- Song Mode: Chain multiple patterns to build longer sequences or activate CV-controlled pattern selection for dynamic song arrangement.
-
Voltage-Controlled Interaction:
- 3 CV-Controlled Potentiometers: The main control parameters are voltage-controlled, allowing modulation from external sources.
- External Trigger for Pattern Generation: Binari can respond to external triggers for real-time, auto-generated patterns, enhancing interactive and generative music possibilities.
Binari: A Eurorack Rhythmic Generator
Binari redefines rhythmic sequencing by blending the natural flow of Euclidean pattern generation with live performance flexibility. It goes beyond traditional Euclidean generators by enabling real-time editing, allowing you to record and erase steps after patterns are generated. This feature lets you create gaps or fills seamlessly, keeping the groove intact while exploring new drum patterns. Additionally, Binari’s random pattern generation ensures fresh and exciting rhythms by controlling the number of active steps, preventing patterns from becoming overly crowded.
Designed for Live Performance
Binari is built with live play in mind. Its intuitive control layout features three potentiometers and three touch buttons, eliminating the need for menu diving. Bright LEDs provide clear feedback, helping you focus on the performance without being distracted by screens or rotary encoders. This design emphasizes muscle memory, making it perfect for high-pressure live sets.
How Binari Works
Modes and Controls
Binari’s controls are driven by the MODE potentiometer, which dictates the functions of the other two potentiometers and touch buttons. There are 10 selectable modes:
-
Group Modes (ABC, DEF):
Control three tracks at a time. Use the right potentiometer to toggle between functions for the three touch pads:- MUTE: Mute/unmute selected tracks.
- CLEAR: Clear all steps in a track.
- ERASE: Remove the current step.
- FILL: Play live without recording.
- REC: Record steps in real time.
- ROLL: Record steps with the “repeat x2” feature for drum roll effects.
- LOAD: Load saved patterns for individual tracks.
-
Track Modes (A, B, C, D, E, F):
- Control individual tracks.
- The right potentiometer adjusts the pattern length (up to 32 steps) or loads saved tracks at maximum position.
- The middle potentiometer determines how many steps will be active during pattern generation.
- Random Generation: Hold the Erase pad and Generate pad to create a random pattern.
Saving Patterns
After crafting your rhythm, you can save it for later:
- Turn the MODE potentiometer to the Save mode.
- Use the right potentiometer to select the last pattern slot (for chaining).
- Save to a specific slot using:
- Rec Pad: Save to the current slot.
- Erase Pad: Save to the previous slot.
-
Gen Pad: Save to the next slot.
Saved patterns are stored in real time and preserved even after power-off.
Loading Patterns and Song Mode
Saved patterns can be loaded individually or chained for longer sequences:
- Use the right potentiometer to select the last pattern.
- Use the middle potentiometer to select the current pattern.
- Pads perform similar actions as in Save mode:
- Rec Pad: Load and reset the current pattern.
- Gen Pad: Load the next pattern, cycling back to the start after the last one.
External triggers (via Trig Gen input) can advance patterns, enabling CV-controlled song playback.
Voltage-Controlled Interaction
Binari’s three main potentiometers—MODE, PULSE, and STEPS—are fully CV-controllable, enabling interaction with external modules for generative music setups:
- Without a jack in the MODE or STEPS CV inputs, the PULSE input serves as the primary control signal.
- Three level potentiometers adjust the amount of CV applied to MODE, PULSE, and STEPS, allowing interactive hand free control.
The Trig Gen input can automatically generate Euclidean patterns, save, or load patterns based on the incoming CV. This makes Binari capable of self-generating sequences that dynamically respond to your modular system.
